I am 35 weeks pregnant and at my regular appointment yesterday my doctor told me he wants me to leave work. Now. I don’t have any pregnancy complications, but I have had a lot of pain and discomfort in my hips and pelvis, as well as not being able to sleep. I drive 45 minutes to work everyday, sit at my desk for 9 hours, then drive 45 minutes home. He wants me to be moving around a lot more than what I am. He thinks that the drive and sitting all day have a lot to do with the pain in my lower back, hips and pelvis. Lack of sleep could be from stress. He told me to finish out the work week, and for Friday to be my last day (today is wednesday).
The problem is, I am not sure if my company’s insurance carrier is going to approve me for leave when I don’t have any major pregnancy complications. I really cannot afford to leave work without ANY pay. My company’s carrier is Liberty Mutual. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of situation or Liberty Mutual Short-term disability?

I have not been at my current job for a year yet (ony 9 months) so I do not qualify for FMLA maternity leave. That is why I have to make a disability claim.
Well, actually, they most certainly ARE going to pay from delivery until 6 weeks post-partum for sure. I don’t know why people say your not "disabled". One of the benefits at my company is short-term disablity for PREGNANCY and POST-PARTUM up to 26 weeks if needed. My question is, will they cover anything other than bed-rest during pregnancy (before delivery). Please only answer this question if you understand it. The first answer obviously did not understand. Thanks!
Yes my company pays for insurance. Actually just spoke to someone at liberty and they ARE going to cover me for short-term disability (66.6% pay) starting July 18th until until October 5th (unless there are complications and I need longer) (there will be one week without pay) I should have just waited for the phone call instead of asking on here, but I did not expect to hear back so quickly (3 days?)!! Well anyways, really glad you guys were wrong. Thanks anyways though!! I probably should have included that I am at risk for pre-term labor and have already dilated 2cms…but you were wrong either way… sweetpea :)
Oh, and btw, if you guys are insurance agents, why have NONE of you asked what state I am in? Pregnancy and maternity leave covered under FMLA and short-term disability varies state to state. Some states don’t consider 3rd trimester pregnancy a disability, but my state does!! :)

Maternity Insurance changing jobs?

I’m looking to get independent insurance for myself with a maternity rider and am very discouraged by what I’ve found so far! I’m currently employed as a teacher and have a group HMO plan, but I’m strongly considering going out on my own within the next few weeks. I’m not sure how long my insurance will be good for (my card says until 1/11, but I’m thinking it will be terminated as soon as I resign). My husband and I are also planning on starting a family soon, so I will need maternity coverage. I was thinking about continuing part time this year to keep my insurance, but we also may be moving mid-year, which would, I believe, negate that insurance, and if I’m already pregnant at that time, my understanding is that it would be nearly impossible to get maternity coverage, if I could get coverage at all. So I think the best plan is to go ahead and get insurance now to cover my bases. I’ve spoken to a few agents and the general finding I’m getting is that my only option is blue cross/blue shield with a maternity rider, but I’m having a hard time accepting that these plans are really a good deal for the money. My understanding is that I’ll be paying around 0 a month and will still have to pay ,500 out of pocket for all maternity expenses, then 50% of everything after. I understand that if I have complications that this will save a bunch of money, but if I have a normal pregnancy, this seems a bit like a rip-off. I know there are cheaper base plans, but the agent I spoke with basically told me that they were useless because very few providers took them.

I guess my questions are 1: What happens if you have group coverage during a pregnancy and then move – do all maternity payments then come out of pocket? 2: Is my information (price wise) accurate? and 3: Are there any cheaper (yet legit) options? Any information you can provide me would be greatly appreciated.

Health Care Plan Deductible Question?

I just lost my health insurance and need a new plan. I typically visit the doctors office only a couple times a year and am quite healthy so don’t expect to be hospitalized at all since I’m only 22. The plan I’m looking at is from kaiser…

The Deductible 40/3000 NM plan has a ,000 deductible and low monthly premium. copay for preventive care and office visits, and / copay for generic/brand prescriptions (all not subject to the deductible). No maternity coverage. It has a monthly rate of 2.

I only plan on using the copay for preventive care and office visits, and / copay for generic/brand prescriptions (all not subject to the deductible). So I wouldn’t be using any services which require the deductible to be paid first for the discount(xrays, mri, ambulance, emergency room etc).

My question is will I still have to pay the 00 annual deductible If I don’t use the services or would I just be paying the 2 monthly rate???

Is there a prepaid pregnancy program?

I have insurance, but right after I had my 2nd son we decided to take the maternity part off. My insurance company told me that once I take that option off, I can NEVER put it back on. Well, my husband and I decided we wanted to try for one more kid, so my question is
1. should I find another insurance company?
2. Is there a insurance company that have maternity option that doesn’t need a 1 year waiting period?
3. Is there a prepaid pregnancy program? cuz i heard if you pay cash, the hospital will usually give you a discount!

I know since it is pre existing I can’t qualify for most major insurance companies. But what options do I have? I heard about Maternity Advantage but they don’t exist any more. Are there any other discount programs out there? I guess I will go to my OBGYN and ask if they except cash paying customers. I don’t qualify for Medicaid because my Husband and I are self employed and make little too much. Any advice is appreciated.

My husband and I are wanting to start a family. We are both independent contractors so we have to get our insurance on our own. We have health insurance but due to the Health Care Reform Act that was passed in September, we are not able to add Maternity coverage to our current plan. The plan that it is offered on is much more expensive and no where close to the same amount of coverage. So we are considering paying for the birth out of pocket. (We do not qualify for Medicaid and I haven’t been able to find any stand alone maternity coverage plans.) We are in the position where we could pay for the birth in cash ahead of time. Does anyone have an idea of how much we could reasonably expect the hospital to discount the bill if we did this? Any suggestions on how to negotiate the bill? About how much does it cost for a delivery? We are in Indianapolis. I’m new to all of this so any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

What are the symptoms of a tubal pregnancy?

A friend of mine has not had her period for over three months. She tests every two weeks and the pregnancy results always come back negative. However, she is concerned that she might have a tubal pregnancy, which-from what I hear-are not shown on a pregnancy test-false readings. She hasn’t any signs or anything. However, she does not have insurance and does not want to go to the doctor or hospital unless if she has too-if she has a tubal pregnancy she knows this must be taken care of immediately since this is life-threatening. I neek to know the signs so she and I can be aware of them. Is there a gradual showing of symptoms or do they come at once? Also, how long after conception do these symptoms appear?

So me and my husband are in between insurances and are looking on getting new insurance. But I want to have a baby in 1 year so I know I need it really soon. But everything I google only explains to me the process of insurance after your pregnant and I can’t get any clear answers on getting maternity coverage, how much it would cost in addition to normal family insurance and its really frustrating. I DO NOT NEED MEDICARE or whatever ‘help’ crap is out there, ONLY normal maternity coverage. Are there any companies that provide maternity coverage without family or individual coverage etc? Do you know of websites that will show BOTH? and please don’t send me to a website that claims that it will give info on maternity insurance and then only have info on family or individual because thats the only thing I’m currently finding and it frustrates me. GAH Google! I wish you were better!

I’m planning not to return to work after a 6week maternity leave. Will I owe the company back the maternity benefits, such as salary paid during leave, insurance, etc?

My wife is currently on maternity leave without pay. We just recieved a bill from the benefits company that is requesting payment for health/dental, AND our flexible spending account that we use for daycare. I know that we are responsible for the health insurance premiums since we are still covered and they can’t take it out of her "non-existent" paycheck, but payment to the FSA makes no sense. The whole point of that account is to send in pre-tax money. Shouldn’t we not have to pay and then just not have that money available for reimbursement?

Because I go so fast with my deliveries I have to go out 2 weeks before my pregnancy and then need time to recover. But, I don’t get insurance through my work. I get it from medicaid. I just can’t figure out how to get it and can’t afford all my bills without my pay..what do i do please help?

I have a 00 maternity deductible with 100 percent covered after that. This is seperate from the family deductible of 3200 a calender year. Do they use a calender year or 9 months pregnancy term for the maternity deductible??? In other words would i have to get pregnant in Jan Feb or March in order to pay the 2500 only once? Or does this vary with insurance companies?
