I am 35 weeks pregnant and at my regular appointment yesterday my doctor told me he wants me to leave work. Now. I don’t have any pregnancy complications, but I have had a lot of pain and discomfort in my hips and pelvis, as well as not being able to sleep. I drive 45 minutes to work everyday, sit at my desk for 9 hours, then drive 45 minutes home. He wants me to be moving around a lot more than what I am. He thinks that the drive and sitting all day have a lot to do with the pain in my lower back, hips and pelvis. Lack of sleep could be from stress. He told me to finish out the work week, and for Friday to be my last day (today is wednesday).
The problem is, I am not sure if my company’s insurance carrier is going to approve me for leave when I don’t have any major pregnancy complications. I really cannot afford to leave work without ANY pay. My company’s carrier is Liberty Mutual. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of situation or Liberty Mutual Short-term disability?

I have not been at my current job for a year yet (ony 9 months) so I do not qualify for FMLA maternity leave. That is why I have to make a disability claim.
Well, actually, they most certainly ARE going to pay from delivery until 6 weeks post-partum for sure. I don’t know why people say your not "disabled". One of the benefits at my company is short-term disablity for PREGNANCY and POST-PARTUM up to 26 weeks if needed. My question is, will they cover anything other than bed-rest during pregnancy (before delivery). Please only answer this question if you understand it. The first answer obviously did not understand. Thanks!
Yes my company pays for insurance. Actually just spoke to someone at liberty and they ARE going to cover me for short-term disability (66.6% pay) starting July 18th until until October 5th (unless there are complications and I need longer) (there will be one week without pay) I should have just waited for the phone call instead of asking on here, but I did not expect to hear back so quickly (3 days?)!! Well anyways, really glad you guys were wrong. Thanks anyways though!! I probably should have included that I am at risk for pre-term labor and have already dilated 2cms…but you were wrong either way… sweetpea :)
Oh, and btw, if you guys are insurance agents, why have NONE of you asked what state I am in? Pregnancy and maternity leave covered under FMLA and short-term disability varies state to state. Some states don’t consider 3rd trimester pregnancy a disability, but my state does!! :)

Why has feminism devalued motherhood so much?

Fact: men cannot be mothers.
Fact: without mothers the human race dies.
Conclusion: motherhood is the most important job in the world and only women can do it.

Question: Why do so many women choose a ‘career’ (often a mundane and stressful low paid job) over motherhood?

Question: Why has feminism devalued motherhood so much?

Working at a Maternity clothing store?

I applied for a job at a maternity clothing store and I was wondering if it is hard working at one?

What can I expect?

Also, at the interview, if they ask why I want to work there, what should I say?

Thanks :)

I’m (hopefully) going to be covering a maternity leave, as an executive assistant with a major manufacturer of locomotives. I have big hips so I like dresses. I wore my best for the first interview. Navy with a scooped neck, conservative hem to the knee, very tailored, and a sand coloured 3/4 sleeve cardigan with sand coloured heels.

I’m going to buy a new outfit for the job shadowing tomorrow. I’m only 26, but most of my office clothes are very classic and conservative. I’m going to be working with a young girl who’s going to be taking the mat leave, I’d like to wear something a little hipper so I don’t look like I’m TOO professional (ie a risk to her job) or uptight and not someone she’d want in her place.

Any ideas for a professional, summery (it’s hot, but no sleeveless), young looking dress I could buy? I will probably go to H&M since it’s reasonably priced.

I’m in London, Ontario, Canada.

Thanks!!

I contracted a kidney infection at the beginning of january and didnt begin to have evident signs until two weeks later (I thought it was a UTI) my doctor gave me cipro 500mg at twice a day and also gave me a shot in my lower hip area and told me to come back in two days, my doctor then went on maternity leave before i came back i got this rather god awful looking doctor when i came back (my symptoms hadnt gotten better) and she pretty much told me i have a kidney infection and gave me a note for work not even a week and half after this i was working and i almost passed out because of pain and fever (which caused me to lose my job) so we called the doctor and she refused my appointment and gave me the same antibiotic its been 6 days and ive only gotten worse and developed a cold along with it.should i go to the hospital instead?

I’m curious how long you have to work in a teaching position before you can take extended maternity leave and still have a job to return to when you decide to go back to work.

Thanks!

My doctor recommended that I get a maternity support belt to alleviate some "groin" pain I’ve been having. I looked at the belts at Babies R Us but am unsure as to which one will do the best job and is the most comfortable. If you’ve used one, please let me know what you thought. Thanks!

I love dressing up, and I have been shopping at Express and wearing Express clothes since I had a job that didn’t require a uniform. I recently discovered I was pregnant so i have been eyeing different maternity sections just to get an idea of what I can expect, and I am incredibly disturbed. Does anyone know of a place where you can get hip, nice, work appropriate maternity clothes that don’t make me look like a soccer mom or an old lady with no sense of style? Help!

We had an employee who was entitled to SMP.

This employee’s Expected date of Confinement was 10th Feb 2008 & she was going to start her maternity leave on 10th Feb 2008.

On 31st Dec 2007, she left our company to start a job with another employer sometime in Jan 2008.

Are we liable to pay her any SMP?

Maternity leave?

I work at circuit city i am 3 months pregnant. Even now my job is getting hard for me to do. We are not allowed to sit down why we are on the clock. I am either checking customers out, greeting customers at the door, or i am putting up displays and doing tags. Being on my feet for 9+ hours at a time is getting very hard for me. I was wondering when most people take maternity leave? And if companys had to give you paid maternity leave because me and my fiance both work and pay rent and going 6 weeks after the baby would be very hard on our pockets.

Maternity Leave?

My husband and I are planning to start trying to get pregnant sometime in 2009. I will finish school as a nurse in the Spring, and was wondering if anyone knows the ‘rule of thumb’ on how long you are typically required to be at a job before being qualified for paid maternity leave? I know maternity leave is offered to everyone, but that sometimes its without pay. Or does it just depend on the place of employment?
